BOOT MANAGER
Installing and running several operating systems on 1 PC is nowadays a common case. However it takes some effort to optimize the system configuration and provide quick and stable system booting / loading.
All boot managers / boot loaders can be divided into several complexity levels:
- Managers/loaders that boot an operating system by reading the boot sector from the first sector of a partition. These managers do not recognize file systems and therefore cannot support multiple operating systems. They have the simplest user interface and occupy minimum disk space. They have a general lack on stability of booting operations.
- Managers/loaders that can load the boot sector from a boot file with a specified name. These usually are parts of an operating system (built-in boot managers) that are supposed to somehow help the operating system to co-exist with other operating systems. Built-in managers have the simplest user interface. Examples are: NT OS Boot Loader.
- Full-scale utilities that can detect file systems (FAT), recognize different operating systems, and are able to automatically detect them. These boot managers are aware of system and configuration files of operating systems and can create backup copies of them, to enable the user to have multiple operating systems with same system file names or multiple copies of configurations of one operating system on one partition.
- Boot managing utilities included in full-range partitioning software. These programs provide all the full-scale boot managing functionality + partitioning functions. Thus you can not only install and run multiple operating systems, but also reorganize your hard disk space and partitions layout without losing data. This is obviously the most suitable and thorough solution for multiple boot systems. They are often provided as a separate utility within large partitioning package.
Boot manager is included in Paragon Partition Manager that will be a great help while using partitioning functions and boot managing functionality at the same time.
